Day 11
Today we will be watching the Oregon Trail Video and then the students will be reflecting on the video in their blogs.
Questions To Talk About: Why did people want to move to Oregon? What historic sites were along the trail? What hazards, dangers, and hardships did the emigrants experience during their travels? Were many people successful making it to Oregon? Your child should be able to answer these questions based on what they saw in the movie today.
Day 12
Today we are making our way to the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center in Oregon City. We will learn about the importance of the trail and how the westward movement from Missouri to Oregon is significant to our lives today.
Questions To Talk About: Ask your child what they saw today and the new things that they learner. Each student took pictures while we were there so have them tell you what they took pictures of and why.
Day 13
The students will be writing their fourth journal entry today and post it to their blog.
Questions To Talk About: Ask them to describe their feelings about finally making it to the final destination in Oregon. Did the trip there meet their expectations as a pioneer? How do they feel about finally being in Oregon? What do they plan to do now that you are in Oregon?
Day 14
We are getting to the end of this lesson and wrapping up the Oregon Trail unit. Students will be making a blog post today about the significance of the Oregon Trail.
Questions To Talk About: Ask your child why they think that the Oregon Trail is important to their life today? Also talk about the importance of learning about the Oregon Trail.
Day 15
Today is our last Friday of the unit so your students will be able to pick one project from the list that they want to complete. They will have to pick a project that have not yet done and complete it today.
Questions To Talk About: Ask them what project they decided to do this week and how they went about completing it. Discuss how this project was different or the same from the ones that they did in the last two weeks.
